Vern Poythress: Miracles as Violation of Natural Law

The real law, the word of God, brings forth miracles. Miracles may be unusual and striking, but they do not violate God’s law. They violate only some human expectations and guesses. But that is our problem, not God’s. Just as Newton’s laws are limited to low velocity approximations, so the principle that axe heads do not float is limited by the qualifications, “except when God in response to a special need and a prophet’s word does otherwise” (e.g., 2 Kings 6:5-6).
